Dolphin School
Dolphin School is for children aged 4-8 (by May 31) who are new to the swim team or swam for the first time last year with some hesitation. There is no fee for Dolphin School but you must be a PHCA member to participate and must sign up through swim team registration.
The primary goals of the program:
- To build confidence in our youngest swimmers and to encourage newer Dolphins in a fun and low stress environment.
- To assess whether each swimmer is ready and able to swim safely and proficiently, which is a requirement to join the swim team set by the Greater Forsyth Swim League.
Although previous swimming experience is not required, familiarity and comfort in the water is necessary. Our team of experienced swim coaches will introduce children to basic swim skills, give them a feel for what practices are like, and determine if they are ready for the swim team this year. Veteran swim team teens will assist with dryland activities and games
Our #1 priority is the safety of every child in and around water. In order to be a member of our swim team, your child will need to be able to demonstrate their ability to swim the length of the pool independently. Swim team is not a learn to swim program or private lessons.
At the conclusion of the week, you will receive an email with either a “green light” (ready) or a “red light” (not ready) designation. If your child receives a “green light” they are invited to start regular swim practice the following week. If your child receives a “red light”, they may work on their swimming skills and try again two weeks later or at whatever point they are ready. If you decide that it is best to wait until next summer, you may request a refund of their registration fee (less the cost of team t-shirt and cap).
Readiness is a combination of skill, maturity and interest. Not all children are ready to join the swim team. The purpose of Dolphin School is to foster a love of swimming in the youngest swimmers who are the future of our swim team, whether they join us this year or next!
Dolphin School is scheduled for May 11-14, 2026 from 5:15-6:45pm. Rain date is Friday, May 15.
