Intrasquad Meet Follow-Up
Saturday’s Intrasquad Meet was so much fun! THANK YOU to all parent volunteers and especially DJ Jimmy Pirkle, the “Pirkle-ator," for making this a great experience for everyone.
RESULTS are attached and may also be found on our Swimtopia site soon.
A NOTE ON DQs
“DQ” stands for disqualification and denotes that the swimmer did not follow a rule at the start, turn, finish or during the swim. Swimming rules apply to all swimmers regardless of age. Stroke & Turn judges are trained officials who call what they see and give the benefit of the doubt to the swimmer. Coaches will be told the reason for each DQ and then have the opportunity to work with swimmers on specific things to help them move toward swimming all strokes legally. A DQ is not something to be ashamed of but an opportunity for learning.
Some DQs are easily fixed - for example pushing off the bottom of the pool at the shallow end before touching the wall, rolling over onto your back before touching the wall or not touching the wall with two hands on breaststroke. Other DQs take more time to correct - for example breaststroke arms or butterfly kick. If you have a question about a DQ you may talk to our coaches - before or after practice.
In general Coach Frances will only enter swimmers in events that they can swim legally - or very close - in order to avoid DQs. For the Intrasquad Meet she entered everyone in every stroke that she thought they could safely attempt. There were some extra DQs for this reason but this allowed kids to try something for the first time. Maybe they actually liked butterfly and just need a little fine tuning. Saturday was a “dress rehearsal” for our first dual meet - an opportunity to practice and have fun. Thanks to all who participated!
STROKE & TURN JUDGES
As you can see, Stroke & Turn is an important job and the only one that requires extra training. The last clinic is Saturday, June 10 at 9:00 AM and you must sign up HERE to attend.
If you have done this job in the past you are still required to attend a clinic every year.
If you have never done this job but have an interest please talk with Katie Whitworth, Ashley McNeill, Stacy Bachman, Maggie Warren or Nick Seeba to learn more. We need you!
TEAM SHIRTS
If you did not pick up your shirts Saturday please do so this week. We also have a limited number of extra shirts that we will sell for $15 - stop by the tables near the gate.
Let’s all get decked out in BLUE for our meet on Tuesday!
We also have many leftover shirts from past years that we will make available for FREE this week only - after which time we will donate.
BROOKBERRY INFO COMING MONDAY!
