Oak Valley Meet Information
Meet #1: Peace Haven vs Oak Valley @ HOME - Tuesday, June 4th
* For those who are new to the team, please visit these pages on our website to learn more: Swim Meet 101, How to Read a Heat Sheet and Marking up Your Swimmer for Meets.
MEET THEME: EXTREME BLUE & GREEN! Show your team spirit and come decked out in blue and green. Swimmers and volunteers will receive blue beads upon arrival. A prize will be given to the best dressed Dolphin!
On Tuesday, we will swim our first meet of the season against the Oak Valley Orcas. Orcas are actually in the dolphin family. They are large and strong. Because of their size and unique markings, they catch the attention of many. When the Peace Haven Dolphins walk in, together, in blue (and green), that gets everyone's attention as well! Get that motivation and attitude ready and let’s show the Orcas how fast we are in the water!!
4:00 PM - Dolphin/Pod volunteers, Lead Set-up and coaches arrive and start setting up!
4:15 PM - All Dolphins arrive - swimmers need to be ready to go when warm ups start!!!
4:30 PM - Oak Valley arrives
4:45-5:05 PM - Dolphins Warm Up
5:15 PM - Timer, Stroke & Turn and Runner Meeting
IMPORTANT - Second half volunteers should come to this meeting. If you cannot make it you must check-in with Stacy Bachmann (Referee) before the second half.
5:30 PM - Meet start
HEAT SHEET - The Heat Sheet and Meet Entries will be sent out on Tuesday afternoon.
VOLUNTEERS - We are still in need of a few volunteers. Please sign up! When you arrive, check-in at our volunteer table. You will receive instructions here on how to do your job. Please ask questions if it is your first time!
PARKING - As you know, our parking is limited. You are welcome to drop swimmers off once our lot is full, but will then need to park on the street. PLEASE park on the POOL SIDE only of Hearthside Drive. No cars are allowed to park on the opposite side of Hearthside for safety reasons. Thank you!
ARRIVAL - Unless you are a Dolphin Pod volunteer, plan to arrive by 4:15 PM to get set up, mark events, etc... If you need help, please seek a veteran parent or Dolphin Pod volunteer. We recommend you Mark Your Swimmer prior to arrival to save time.
DECK - Spectator seating is only available on one side of our pool. Traditionally, Peace Haven sets up on the deep end and the visiting team on the shallow end. We will be arriving first, so let’s be hospitable and make sure to share the deck space. Please bring extra chairs. No one is allowed on the steps in the shallow end or to have legs in the pool anywhere on deck during the meet.
10 & UNDER SWIMMERS - The Dolphin Pod will be located along the fence at the deep end of the pool. It will be VERY important to instruct your 10&U swimmers to remain in the Dolphin Pod with their assigned parent volunteer so they can easily be found when their next events come around.
11 & OVER SWIMMERS - These swimmers have the freedom to roam during the meet, but it is a BIG responsibility keeping track of meet progression and lining themselves up for their own events. 11&Over swimmers need to take this responsibility seriously, we DO NOT want to be chasing them down before their events and no one likes to see an empty spot in a lane that should be filled!
ORDER OF EVENTS - Last year GFSL moved 6&U backstroke events to the early half of the meet following the completion of the 15-18 50 yd Freestyle event (#24) and prior to the start of 7-8 25 yd Butterfly event. This is a welcome change as it allows 6&U swimmers to finish their meet sooner and reduces crowding on the deck.
* Let’s encourage good sportsmanship! Remind your Dolphin to stay in the water and shake hands with the other team at the end of the race. Let’s cheer for EVERYONE and never put others down - including our competitors.
DOLPHIN DOLLARS - All heat winners (including relays) will receive a “Dolphin Dollar” that they can redeem at the Snack Shack for a prize!
PLAYGROUND - The playground is open for use during the meet but is unsupervised. Parents are advised to monitor as necessary. The baby pool is not open for swimming.
CONCESSIONS - Hamburgers, chips, drinks, candy and snacks are available at the Snack Shack during the meet. PH members may charge their accounts or pay with cash or Venmo. Sunset Slush will be on deck and prefers cash but accepts cash app, card, Venmo and Apple Pay. Price is $5 for 2 scoops and $10 for a full koozie. If you bought a koozie last year, bring it and you can reuse it for $1 per scoop.
CLEAN UP - Many hands make light work! At the conclusion of the last event we will ask Dolphins and their parents to help clean up. Moving chairs, picking up trash, etc. The Pizza Party will not start until the deck is put back in order. THANK YOU!
After Party with Pizza for Dolphins!!!
We will have our pizza party in the shelter after the meet. It is $5 per person, $20 family max. Jill Johnson is our Pizza Planner! You can prepay her Venmo - @ccjjohnson - and she will take cash and Venmo on Tuesday until 7:00PM. This is a lot of fun for our swimmers!! We hope you will stay and enjoy!
